Dave Spates and Emily record an epic photography hike to Sky Pond in the late spring, at Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Colorado. 0:00 - opening b-roll 4:54 - The Loch 8:00 - Sky Pond waterfall climb 8:57 - Lake of Glass 10:20 - we reach Sky Pond Starting from the Glacier Gorge trailhead, shooting through the Fire Trail back to the Glacier Gorge trail junction. Brief photographic opportunities at The Loch Lake, where we also first encountered some patches of snow. The trail became snow packed right before Timberline Falls, which was also partially frozen, and then cleared up by the Sky Pond waterfall scramble. The Sky Pond waterfall climb wasn't that bad despite lots of water flowing down from the rocks. Feet were relatively dry when reaching Lake of Glass. The wind at Lake of Glass was brutal, but once you get back onto the Sky Pond trail it comes down, as you are out of the wind tunnel. Fields of packed down snow separated Lake of Glass and Sky Pond. Micro-spikes were helpful to make it all the way to Sky Pond but good hiking boots or shoes with good traction would also work.
