Anorexia recovery and compensatory behaviours. My top 3 tips. This vlog is all about how to fight the urges to engage in compensation behaviours during anorexia recovery. Often during anorexia recovery when we are challenging ourselves, we can feel the urge to engage in compensatory behaviours. For myself, if I find that I do less exercise, or have been going out for a meal, I would want to compensate for that by restricting and eating less. It is the eating disorder getting worried that you are fighting it so it increases our anxiety. So the anorexia (or eating disorder) makes us engage in the compensatory behaviour. And then you end up stuck in this cycle of eating disorder challenge followed by restriction. I have worked a lot on reducing my compensatory behaviours and I share my top 3 tips which hopefully might help you. When I have the urge to engage in a compensation behaviour I try and recognise that this is anorexia speaking, not me. I also remind myself that anxiety doesn’t increase forever and what my long term anorexia recovery goals are. If you want to have a watch of my recent video – My Anorexia Story, head to my channel.
