(28 May 2020) Kosovar Muslims resumed praying at mosques on Thursday after more than two months of lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic. Kosovar Albanian faithful headed to the main mosque in downtown Pristina, while observing preventive measures including disinfecting their hands and maintaining a distance. That was the first prayer session since mid-March when all the mosques were closed due to the virus outbreak. All mosques were disinfected both from the inside and the outside, where disinfection teams sprayed the yards. The Islamic Community of Kosovo, the country's Muslims' leadership, has called on people to spend no longer than 10 minutes inside mosques. Some Muslim faithful and imams wanted mosques to reopen the previous week in time for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which was largely celebrated at home. Kosovar authorities have been very careful in easing the lockdown, saying the early lockdown is credited with keeping the number of deaths and critically ill people low. As of Thursday, there have been 1,048 confirmed virus cases in Kosovo and 30 confirmed deaths.
