Dr Pallavi Chennammaraju, Fertility Specialist, Nova IVF- Chennai talks about- About The IVF Process: If there is no cyst and all tests are normal, A woman's injections start on her 2nd or 3rd day following the scan and hormonal test. For a minimum of 5 to 6 days, injections are given. A scan is then performed once more to determine how well the injections have worked. The trigger injection is given once the follicle has reached a decent size. This entire preparation of the eggs is made possible by this trigger injection. After 32 to 36 hours of injection, the eggs are taken. The removal of these eggs causes no wounds or stitches. The eggs are removed from the follicles through a needle connected to a suction device. Husband's sperm is also collected on the same day the eggs are taken. Sperm is then either chosen from them or preserved with the eggs, or one sperm is combined with one egg. If sperm and eggs are deposited together, the sperm chooses which sperm will fertilise the egg and create the embryo. That process is called IVF, or in vitro fertilisation. Likewise, the procedure of injecting one of your sperm into an egg after viewing it under a microscope is known as ICSI, or intracytoplasmic sperm injection. After ICSI, it will be stored in incubators and checked to see if the quality of the embryos has improved after 18 to 24 hours. After these procedures, the embryos are ready to grow in the lab. In many laboratories, they grow the embryos till the 3rd day & till the 5th day. Once it has grown in the lab by the 3rd or 5th day, the embryo is examined under a microscope, & one or two embryos are then returned to the womb after being chosen as the best ones & after consulting with the patient. Depending on the quantity of embryos and the uterine lining, the patient will be informed if the procedure involves freezing or transferring embryos during the next cycle. It is good to have embryos frozen, if, for any reason, you are unable to conceive during the injection cycle, the second round may utilise frozen embryos. If you conceive after the first transfer, a frozen embryo can be used for a second pregnancy after 2 to 3 years.
