Jonathan Sadowski was the recipient of the first combined heart-kidney transplant at the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital Transplant Center in St. Louis. To read more about Jonathan's heart-kidney transplant, visit: http://www.barnesjewish.org/ip/fall10... The heart transplant was Sadowski's second. He was born with left hypoplastic heart syndrome and received his first transplant, when he was less than two months old. About a year ago, doctors found that he had developed transplant coronary artery disease, and anti-rejection medication plus his failing heart had caused irreversible damage to his kidneys. Jonathan discusses what his life has been like, how he ended up needing a multi-organ transplant, and what his goals are for the future. To read the complete story of Jonathan's combined heart-kidney transplant and details about his surgeries, visit: http://www.barnesjewish.org/ip/fall10... The transplant was performed in two stages, with Washington University heart transplant surgeon I-wen Wang, MD, PhD, performing the five-hour heart transplant in the evening on June 2. In that operation, Dr. Wang removed Sadowski's diseased heart and implanted the new heart. For more information, visit http://www.barnesjewish.org.
