Repair of Conjunctival Erosion Over Tube (Glaucoma Drainage Device)

A focal erosion of conjunctiva over the tube portion of a glaucoma drainage device was noted during routine patient follow-up. It was not clear that the original surgery involved placing a patch graft over the tube. There was no obvious elevation of the tube as it entered the sclera and anterior chamber. The procedure involved excision of the tissue immediately adjacent to the erosion, placing a patch graft (processed pericardium) over the tube and re-approximating healthy conjunctiva over the patch graft. Placing a "figure 8" suture over the tube to further flatten it and/or changing the direction of the tube into the sclera by creating a second needle track would have been an option in this case as well.
