Patna High Court Strikes Down Bihar Reservation Increase | Key Judgement Explained | News9

The Patna High Court has nullified a law that increased reservations for SCs, STs, Backward, and Extremely Backward classes from 50% to 65%. The court deemed this increase as ultra vires and in violation of the equality clause under Articles 14, 15, and 16 of the Constitution. This ruling effectively nullifies the Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (Amendment) Act, 2023, and The Bihar Reservation (Amendment) Act, 2023. The judgment, delivered by Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice Harish Kumar, followed multiple petitions challenging these amendments.
