55022 North Norfolk Napier Noise in November on 2 Engines! Awesome Experience with Headphones

What a loud, unforgettable day at the North Norfolk Railway, as we celebrated their 50th Birthday Party in true railway style. Alongside the special appearance of Royal Scots Grey, we were also treated to the magnificent Steam Engine 70000 Britannia, which we later passed at Weybourne—a moment railway enthusiasts will truly appreciate. The star of the day for many was 55022, running in its original 1960s livery and numbering as D9000. Whether trackside or onboard, the experience was simply phenomenal. Throughout the day we were regularly treated to two engines working together, unleashing an incredible 3,300 horsepower. Hearing the two legendary Napier Deltic 1,650hp two-stroke power units in unison was nothing short of spectacular. One of the most magical moments came onboard at Weybourne, when the second engine was started. From the front coach, the sound triggered audible gasps of pure delight and excitement—a moment that truly captures what makes Deltics so special. When running on a single engine, three cameras and three microphones captured every thrill in crystal-clear audio, with stunning 4K visuals showing steam-like exhaust trails that are a joy to experience. A huge thank you to the LSL Locomotive Services crew, who were incredibly friendly and accommodating throughout the day. They helped secure one of my safety-engineered cameras and microphones to the front lamp bracket, allowing you to experience the breathtaking results in the second section of this film. The footage and sound speak for themselves. I can only dream of being allowed to do this on the mainline someday—I now have all the equipment fully engineered to do it safely, while out on tours. This truly was a wonderful day, and it has become one of the best-sounding Deltic films in my collection, alongside my many collaboration with the DPS, right here on the HellfireTV channel.
