I persuaded my entire family to backpack Pedernales Falls State Park with triple digit temperatures! Pedernales Falls State Park in central Texas is classified as a Dark Sky Preserve. The Perseid Meteor shower was going to peak on August 13, 2021. So I talked my entire family plus two others into going backpacking in 108-degree weather so we could stargaze. (Still can't believe I managed to pull that off.) It was brutally hot, but we were careful, no one got heat sick, and in the end, it was a lot of fun. **PRIMITIVE AREA TIP: On the Pedernales Falls SP websitse, you reserve a certain primitive site "number," but there are no actual numbers in the primitive area. The park merely uses the "site number" to manage the number of people camping on any given night. You reserve your site(s) based on the number of people in your party and then when you actually get there, you just camp anywhere in the primitive area that suits your fancy.
