Late in the 3rd season of the original series... Barry Atwater debuted the Star Trek character of Surak... the most important philosopher-leader in the history of the planet Vulcan. His hopeful BLESSING to Captain Kirk that the differences between Humans and Vulcans would lead to the federation becoming greater than the sum of the two individual species is an allusion to that controversial paraphrase of Aristotle suggesting that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. As a result of HIS six works collected into The Organon, Aristotle was considered to be the father of Western Logic. This Star Trek reference serves two higher purposes: 1. The first is to link the Vulcan Surak with both Aristotle and the Hellenistic Hebrew Ben Sirach who authored the Book of Ecclesiasticus around 180 BCE. Aristotle lived from 384 to 322 BCE. 2. The second purpose is to direct the reader to explore the actual quote in Aristotle's Metaphysics Book 8 section 1045a... and what comes right before it. #Surak, #StarTrek #Logic, #Aristotle, #metaphysics #nicap, #mufon, #cufos, #icufon, #spock #Sirach, #bensirach #newtestament #john2 #cana #canawedding, #water2wine #christianity, #thomasowens #originalseries, #Vulcan, #vulcans
