In this video, one of our UCAT experts breaks down the Abstract Reasoning section of the UCAT. If you want to know more about what AR involves, why it is tested, the timing, and our top tips for approaching these questions, keep watching! We also run through a set of AR style questions step by step, so you can get a real feel for this section of the exam. INTRO: (00:00) What does AR involve? (00:30) - AR is all about spotting patterns, such as in the number of shapes, the number of sides, and the colours of these shapes. It’s also about avoiding distractions, such as fake patterns or patterns that do not fully add up, which are intended to throw you off course. Abstract Reasoning is very fast-paced (1:05) - You have 13 minutes to do 55 questions, which are organised in 11 sets of 5. You have roughly 71 seconds per set. Once you have spotted the pattern in a set, you can quickly complete the rest of the questions in that set. Warm up quiz (1:40) - Watch this warm up quiz to get an idea of this style of question, and how you can approach it. How does AR link to Medicine? (8:45) - AR is all about spotting patterns, which is what you will be doing as a doctor e.g. in X rays or clinical signs and symptoms. It’s also about forming links between knowledge, which is a skill you will need as a doctor to find links between a patient’s history and their current symptoms. Finally, AR tests your ability to avoid distractions and cope in time pressured environments. What are the challenges in AR? (10:10) - AR requires a lot of practice, it is very time-pressured, and AR is also a new skill that is not tested in your GCSE or A level curriculum. This is why practice questions is crucial for your preparation. Top tips for AR (11:20) - Begin by spotting the patterns in set A and set B, rather than wasting time on the test shapes. You can look for similarities between A and B. If you are struggling on a set and a minute has passed, move on to the next set - you can revisit the difficult questions at the end if you have time. 🌟 Book our award-winning UCAT 1-1 tutoring: [https://www.medicmind.co.uk/ucat-tuto...](https://www.medicmind.co.uk/ucat-tuto...) 🏆 Sign up to our UCAT Course: [https://www.medicmind.co.uk/ucat-onli...](https://www.medicmind.co.uk/ucat-onli...) ✍🏽 Access our UCAT Past Paper Bank: [https://www.medicmind.co.uk/ucat-prac...](https://www.medicmind.co.uk/ucat-prac...) 📖 Read our UCAT Guide for FREE tips: [https://www.medicmind.co.uk/medicine-...](https://www.medicmind.co.uk/medicine-...) 📖 Download our FREE notes on Abstract Reasoning: [https://www.medicmind.co.uk/free-ucat...](https://www.medicmind.co.uk/free-ucat...) 🔴 Subscribe for more free UCAT tips: [https://www.youtube.com/medicmind?sub...](https://www.youtube.com/medicmind?sub...) #UCAT #MedicMind *Contact us for more information!* Facebook: [ / medicmind ](https://www.youtube.com/redirect?even...)
