As they age, those affected by Down syndrome have a greatly increased risk of developing a type of dementia that's either the same as or very similar to Alzheimer's disease. This program will focus on the unique and important connection between Down syndrome and Alzheimer's disease. The presentation will cover the symptoms, diagnosis, and management of Alzheimer's, noting that initial signs can present as behavioral or personality changes rather than just memory loss. The program will also provide essential information for families and caregivers to help them prepare for the future, advocate for appropriate care, understand resources available, and the latest research that may lead to new therapies.
