The conference "Reimagining Southeast Asian History" was held at the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore on August 26th. Topics such as the history of pre-1819 Singapore, the issue of coloniality in historiography, and the history of Southeast Asia as a region were discussed. The conference line-up included: ● Professor Kwa Chong Guan, Adjunct Associate Professor (Hon.) at the History Dept, National University of Singapore (NUS), Senior Fellow at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University and an Associate Fellow at the Archaeological Unit of the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute ● Professor Syed Farid Alatas, professor of sociology at NUS ● Professor Peter Borschberg, professor in the Department of History at NUS ● Christopher Hale, author of the recently published A Brief History of Singapore and Malaysia: Multiculturalism and Prosperity: The Shared History of Two Southeast Asian Tigers ● Historian, travel writer, and journalist Tim Hannigan, author of the prize-winning book Raffles and the British Invasion of Java ● Professor Wang Gungwu, professor at NUS and recipient of the Tang Prize in Sinology ● Chef Damian D'Silva, internationally renowned culinary expert of Singapore Heritage Cuisine We would like to thank Galen Yeo, Rohit Krishnan, and their team at The Moving Visuals for recording the conference and editing the videos.
