Velo Time: 1:50:94 My Time: 1:42:63 Full playlist: • CTR Nitro-Fueled — Emperor Velo XXVII Time... This track is pure evil and it always was. When it feels like some of your success is based on luck, that's never good. As you'll see from the clip, my first trip through the tubes was a wild and mysterious ride. I'm still not quite sure how I made it through there unscathed, but favor shone upon me and I lived to see another day. The other two laps were more calm and collected, and reflect the basic racing line you want to take each time. Regardless of how you choose to approach the tube section, you'll need proficiency in air braking—not to mention hair-trigger reflexes. If you're still not familiar with how to air brake, this part's for you. As this technique is better illustrated than described, see the link below for how to do it. He has the controller inputs embedded in the video that light up in timing with his movements on screen, so it's super easy to see what's going on. The video shows a PS4 controller but I'm on Xbox One and I can confirm it works with either the joystick or the D-pad. I personally prefer the joystick due to the Xbox One controller's layout, but use whichever feels more natural to you. • CTR NF - alt U-turn inputs Chain three perfect boosts at the start, hop across the rough, then power slide across the first boost pad to pick up Ultimate Sacred Fire (USF). If done correctly, you'll pass safely to the left of the first saw blade. No need to power slide in the next area, just jump your way through it. For the shortuct, take it as tightly as you dare and hop or air brake upon landing to adjust if you need to. Now, the tubes. I experimented a lot with this section and what worked for me is to hard air brake to the right two or three times so you can pass to the right of the first blade. After that, you'll need to improvise based on where the blades are as you approach them. Initially I tried to work out a set path, but I quickly found that the timing of the blades was less predictable than I thought. So each lap you may need to make minor modifications to your line. One silver lining here is that your reserves are usually at max by the time you enter the tubes, so you can use that to your advantage by air braking as many times as you need to without fear of losing your USF. For whatever reason, I found laps 2 and 3 easier than the first. If you're ahead of Velo as you cross the lap marker, that means you kept blue-fire the whole way through lap 1. On laps 2 and 3, provided you keep the same pace, the first saw blade of the lap should be out of your way entirely (but still keep to the left side just in case). Then it's just a matter of making it through the tubes uninterrupted two more times, which of course is much easier said than done for those of us without nerves of steel. In total I spent nearly three hours on this time trial, but only because I wanted a clip where I don't lose blue fire. Note that this is not required to clear the trial, as Velo is wiped out by a blade on his second lap. Which means you can be, too and still come out on top. There were several runs where I was hit once in there and yet still managed to beat Velo by four seconds. That was nice of Beenox because honestly this track is rage-inducing, especially if going for three flawless laps. Godspeed, friends.
