In this video, we are going to talk about the Minimum Equipment List (MEL). By the end of this video, you will know what the MEL is and why it is so important. The Minimum Equipment List contains the list of the equipment and systems that could be temporarily inoperative before you the commencement of the flight. So, if during the boarding you experience a system failure, such as the Radio Altimeter, for example, you have to check the MEL and figure out if you can dispatch with that system inoperative. The MEL takes as reference the MMEL (Master Minumum Equipment List) which is prepared by Aircraft Manufacturer and approved by the Aviation Authority, such as FAA or EASA. The operator takes the MMEL and writes its MEL tailored for the specific operator fleet, operations, and so on. The Minimum Equipment List cannot be less restrictive than the MMEL. It is important to remember that the last word stands with the Aircraft Commander that can decide to apply more restricted measures. The information that you can find inside the MEL are: -The MEL Categories (tells you how many days you have to rectify the inoperative System) The Number of Items installed on the Aircraft The Number required to dispatch, The type of procedure that must be implemented in order to dispatch with that inoperative item, Any other important information regarding the Item and procedure applicable.
