Adenomyosis: Painful Periods and Heavy Bleeding? Watch This.

Adenomyosis is far more common than most people realize — yet it’s often misdiagnosed or overlooked. Too many women are dismissed or passed from doctor to doctor for years before finally reaching a specialist who understands what’s going on. For more than 15 years, I’ve been diagnosing and treating adenomyosis, and I know how disruptive it can be. Common symptoms include: • Heavy bleeding • Severe, labor-like cramps • Pain that lasts through much of the month Because it doesn’t always show up on imaging, diagnosis is usually clinical, with MRI being more helpful in some cases. Treatment depends on your fertility goals. For women with focal adenomyosis, fertility-sparing surgery may sometimes be an option. A hysterectomy remains the only cure — but contrary to common belief, it does not automatically mean removal of your ovaries. If your ovaries are preserved, you will not go straight into menopause.
