I cycled into town to see a film being shown at the Glasgow Film Festival. It was cool to be there with red carpet out, all the photographers and security. (Not quite a Leicester Square red carpet premiere, but still.) My cycling route was very straightforward: my usual commute along the Kelvin River as far as the Prince of Wales Bridge where, instead of crossing it towards campus, I carried on through Kelvingrove Park exiting behind An Clachan Cafe. From there, I used the bus lane on Sauchiehall Street, then the foot bridge over the M8, which on the east end hooks up with the new (ish) segregated bi-directional cycle path that runs the full length of Sauchiehall Street to the pedestrianised shopping precinct - which starts at Rose Street which is where the Glasgow Film Theatre is, so that's handy! The cycle path is okay to use - usual pedestrian and drain covers to contend with, though I was not going through at a particular busy time. The only real issue I found is the inconsistent and contradictory traffic control measures i.e. painted markings and lights at junctions whose purpose/meaning was pretty hard to decipher. So I just cycled cautiously and didn't try to figure out what the non-cycling powers that be might have intended.
