In this session we meet 16 year old Marcela, who came to the U.S. from Colombia at age 8 and has been in foster care since. Marcela has experienced episodes of extreme distress in the past around the time of her birthday. On her most recent birthday, she ran away but was later found at the train station. Since Marcela learned her father will soon be released from prison, she’s had difficulties sleeping, focusing on school, and has had nightmares about her childhood in Colombia. With her therapist, Dr. Velez, Marcela opens up about what is triggering her now, by sharing her most recent journal entry. --- Welcome to the Center for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders (CTDTD) — a national center committed to transforming care for children and families impacted by trauma. We provide high-quality, no-cost resources for educators, trainers, and professionals in practice or training. 🎥 About This Series: The Developmental Trauma Disorder: Identifying Critical Moments and Healing Complex Trauma Video Series offers clinicians, counselors, and other helpers valuable insights into recognizing and navigating the most difficult crises and turning points in therapy with traumatized children and families.
