Karen Wheaton: The Power of Persistent & Insistent Prayer (Luke 11:8) Karen gives a vivid illustration of the power of persistence in prayer. Luke 11:8 (AMPC) says, “I tell you, although he will not get up and supply him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his shameless persistence and insistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.” Be blessed. Remember: you’ve been blessed to be a blessing. (Genesis 12:2) Pay it forward! He did not put a limit on what you can ask for. When you look up the meaning of “shameless persistence,” you could translate it as “gall.” Gall says, “I don't care what anybody thinks. I look like a fool and I know it. People think I'm crazy but I'm going to keep knocking. I'm not going to stop. I've got a word. I've got permission to stand at this door. I'm not leaving until the door opens. One night we were in worship at the Ramp. I'm on the platform in my own little place with the Jesus, just worshiping, I suddenly went into a vision. I see a door. I thought to myself what is this door? Suddenly, the door opened and out and they handed me three loaves of bread. I said, “God! Are you giving me the bread? You're giving me the bread!” When I said that, the door opened wide. I stepped inside the door, looked around and I realized I was in a warehouse of nothing but bread. There were shelves of bread from the floor to a ceiling, more bread than your mind can imagine. I heard a voice speak to me saying, “You just want three?” NO GOD! I'll take the whole warehouse! Luke 11 (AMPC) 5 And He said to them, Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and will say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves [of bread], 6 For a friend of mine who is on a journey has just come, and I have nothing to put before him; 7 And he from within will answer, Do not disturb me; the door is now closed, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and supply you [with anything]? 8 I tell you, although he will not get up and supply him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his shameless persistence and insistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs. Bob Sorge wrote a life-changing book that came to me when my daughter Lindsey was gone and it transformed my life. This portion of scripture became Rhema to me. Bob broke it down into today's culture. God's not some Santa Claus or sugar daddy. He is your father and he wants a relationship with you. When you have intimacy with God then you have the privileges of being His friend. Jesus said, “If he won't get up just because of friendships sake he'll get up because of your shameless persistence. When my daughter Lindsey was gone, I'd been contending for that bread for weeks. I would go out on the front porch and I would literally take that scripture and say, “God! It’s Karen! You said I could ask. God and I'm asking for bread! God it’s Karen! Lord I need three loaves for Lindsay! I need three loaves for her healing, her salvation and her deliverance. I need three loaves for Lindsay. Give me the bread! You said I could pray this way! You're the one that said I could! Here I am God!” One night we were in worship at the Ramp. I stepped inside the door, looked around and I realized I was in a warehouse of nothing but bread.= There were shelves of bread from the floor to a ceiling, more bread than your mind can imagine. I heard a voice speak to me saying, “You just want three?” NO GOD! I'll take the whole warehouse! I need the whole warehouse for a generation of other young people.” Don’t ask a small thing of a big God. He did not put a limit on what you can ask for.
