This is episode #11 in the series of videos created by woodblock printmaker Dave Bull documenting the production of his new reproduction of Hokusai's Great Wave design. There is quite a lot of printmaking content in this one - the main focus is on the procedure for making the colour separations, getting ready for colour block carving. For more information on our edition of the Great Wave print, please visit the web site at: http://mokuhankan.com/hokusai/ A few words about the closing segment - the obligatory trip out into the neighbourhood around the Mokuhankan workshop. As mentioned in the video, Dave recorded this segment using a pair of binaural microphones plugged into the video camera. These are small microphones that fit into the ears, thus catching sounds with exactly the same time separation between left and right that would occur if you were standing at that spot yourself. When played back through headphones - and this is essential, as the effect is lost when played through speakers - the result is a stunning 360 panorama of sound. You can hear footsteps approaching from behind, birds passing overhead, and each and every sound can be heard in its proper 'place' in the scene. (It's also fun, once you have seen the segment, to play it back again with your eyes closed …) If you would like to hear a bit more audio prepared with these microphones, there are some more items on the 'Diversions' page of the woodblock.com website at: http://woodblock.com/diversions/ And I purchased the microphone pair from here: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi...
