Pauline Druley has called Western Wayne County home for most of her 97 years, living in both Cambridge City and Milton where she now resides. Her ancestors - the Beeson-Kniese family - are some of the original inhabitants of this area. Pauline's family has owned property south of Milton since 1820, just four years after Indiana statehood. This is the first in a projected series of interviews with local senior citizens. this recorded interview idea is the brainchild of the women who oversee the local history reading room at the Cambridge city public library. Roberta lemley, Patty Hersberger, Lori Griffin, Leah Huddlestone, Jill King, Joann Casey, Susie Guthrie Gabbard and Loren. avid local historians dedicated to preserving the heritage of Western Wayne Wounty. In this episode miss "Pauline Druley", her history parallels the 20th century history of this area. she rode the dinky (the Milton to Cambridge City branch of the interurban) ice skated on the Hagerstown extension of the whitewater canal, and was personally acquainted with the Overbeck sisters. she was the first woman to be chosen as secretary for the Indiana senate she and her late husband enjoyed many years together working in professional jobs, traveling and playing golf.
