Of all my interludes used for "The Serpent and The Sphere" this was the only one that had been previously composed. Funny enough, I originally wrote it for a Christian metalcore band in 2009 who asked me through Myspace if I would compose an acoustic intro for their album. They didn't end up using it so when Agalloch asked me in 2012 to write interludes for their upcoming album I figured I'd resurrect this piece and see if they liked it. It ended up fitting perfectly but I never imagined that it would close out the discography of one of my all-time favourite bands five years after composing it and a decade after first falling in love with "The Mantle".
