The Mary G Montgomery JROTC was put in place at the high school to motivate young students to become better citizens. Sergeant First Class Phillip Lee makes it fun while also helping his cadets reach their goals. School officials say it's very competitive, and requires hard work and dedication. All cadets must keep their grades up and attend practice for color guard and drill movements twice a week after school. It's not easy, but the cadets enjoy it. "It helps me keep my grades up I get to a lot of cool things. I get to spin a rifle, which is really fun you get to do a lot of fun stuff with that. You get to do a lot of competitions you learn about first aid and my freshmen year we got certified in CPR," says Tyler Boggan. "Our mission is to motivate young people to be better citizens, and we strive to accomplish our mission. We like for them to keep a 2.5 we try to strive higher because like you said earlier we're pushing for scholarships," says Sergeant First Class Retired Phillip Lee.
