Our response area includes New Castle County, as well as parts of Delaware County, PA, and the City of Chester. 📍 Claymont Fire Company 3223 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware 19703 — On Tuesday, May 20th @ 00:40, Station 13 was dispatched to assist Lower Chichester Fire Company on a residential structure fire in the Trainer Borough of Delaware County. Engine 39 arrived at a two-story standalone dwelling with fire showing and assumed first-due engine responsibilities. Tower 13 arrived as the first special service, and Engine 13-5 arrived shortly after as the third-due engine. While Engine 39 stretched, Tower 13 split crews—completing primary searches ahead of the line and laddering the building to perform VES on the Charlie side. Engine 13-5 positioned on Side Charlie, stretching a 300' attack line to the rear and going line over ladders to the second floor. While searching the second floor, crews encountered high heat and zero visibility. Engine 13-5 made the second floor, locating the fire in an Alpha-side bedroom. While getting water on the fire, a search of the fire room was completed, and the outside team performed vertical ventilation with Aston Township Truck 17. As crews began to open up, Engine 13-5’s Officer fell through a hole in the fire room. After falling waist-deep, the officer was able to remove himself and attempted to notify Command of the holes and his condition. Due to a waterlogged mic, the transmission was not heard by Command. Engine 13-5’s crew then exited the structure, where both the Officer and Nozzleman were treated for non–life-threatening injuries. — 🎥 Incident Video and Training 17 cameras were utilized during this incident, allowing our membership to obtain valuable footage for recruitment and training.
