One Patient's Lipedema Experience

One patient shares her lipedema journey. Like many others with lipedema, it took Brooke Bayer a long time to recognize her condition, despite having an unusual advantage: She works in the lymphedema-treatment field. Even so, it was difficult for her to admit to herself that she had a fat disorder. Lipedema patients come in all shapes and sizes. Since Brooke isn't obese, no physician had ever noted that she was experiencing lipedema symptoms. A clinical examination with Dr. Thomas Wright of the St. Louis Laser Lipo and Vein Center confirmed she did have lipedema as well as primary lymphedema, and they immediately began a course of treatment using intermittent pneumatic compression with the Flexitouch Plus APCD to augment conservative therapy and optimize the maintenance phase following surgery. Once her lymphatic flow was optimized, they planned for two phases of lymph-sparing liposuction.
