Daniel Rojas – Sí, Es Mi Festejo (Yes, It’s My Festivity) - Miniature for Symphony Orchestra Composed for the 110th Anniversary of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Sí, Es Mi Festejo (“Yes, it is my festivity”) is a one-minute orchestral explosion of joy, resilience, and creative energy. The title hides a bilingual musical pun: sí (“yes”) and the note C, together with Es (E♭) and Mi (E), form the “SCM motive” – E♭–C–E – that all composers in this anniversary project were asked to use. Daniel Rojas brings his signature blend of Latin American rhythm and classical sophistication to this exuberant miniature. Listeners can hear flashes of tango (yumbao, chicharra, latigo), Afro-Cuban grooves, and the vivid Andean sikuris panpipe sonorities — all compressed into a minute of rhythmic vitality that ends with an ecstatic salsa flourish. This work forms part of SCM Orchestral Miniatures, celebrating the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s 110 years of innovation and creative excellence. Featuring contributions from over 30 composer-academics across all areas — classical, jazz, education, music technology, and beyond — the project captures a snapshot of contemporary Australian composition and the boundless imagination of the SCM community.
