This new live performance is built around the Push 3, conceived as a central instrument for both composition and performance. Everything begins with a synth sound from Drift, played directly on the Push pads to create an initial riff that is clearly audible from the very first moments. This motif acts as a musical anchor, both rhythmic and melodic. From this starting point, the piece develops through successive layers. Splice Music samples are gradually introduced, triggered and organized in real time. The flow of clips relies heavily on the Follow function, allowing the music to evolve naturally and fluidly: sections connect seamlessly, leaving space for listening, intuition, and the present moment. The composition is therefore not fixed, but conceived as an open form, where musical organization guides the performance without restricting it. Each clip launch becomes a musical decision; each transition, a moment of breathing. On the sonic side, the extensive use of Ableton Live plugins and Softube tools, including the new Softube plugin integrated into Ableton, brings depth, character, and an almost analog warmth to the sound. On the Master channel, I perform live sound shaping using Softube, Roar, Auto Filter, and Beat Repeat, sculpting texture, dynamics, and groove in real time. This performance sits at the crossroads of composition, improvisation, and live mixing, where the Push 3 becomes a true extension of the musical gesture, serving a constantly evolving musical narrative. 🎶🎛️ Explication : 1 – Play a Clip | Scene 1 I launch Scene 1 on the Push 3 and start the performance by triggering the first clip. I immediately shape the global sound by mixing on the Main channel, using Macro Effects assigned to control the overall texture. These macros allow real-time transformations of the master sound directly from the Push 3. 2 – Building the Groove with Follow Actions Clips are then triggered progressively using the Follow function. This creates a natural flow between musical sections, allowing the structure to evolve automatically while leaving space for live decisions and interaction. 3 – Playing the Synth Riff (Drift) I play a Drift synth sound directly on the Push 3 pads, performing a short riff that acts as the melodic foundation of the piece. This live input anchors the composition and interacts with the clips already in motion. 4 – Adding Samples (Splice Music) Additional Splice Music samples are layered in real time. Each sample is launched manually or via Follow Actions, reinforcing rhythm, texture, and movement within the arrangement. 5 – Live Sound Shaping on the Master While the structure unfolds, I perform a live mix on the Master channel, using Ableton Live effects such as Softube, Roar, Auto Filter, and Beat Repeat. These effects are used as musical tools to play with dynamics, saturation, filtering, and rhythmic variations. 6 – Improvisation and Form The performance remains intentionally open. The combination of clip launching, Follow Actions, live playing, and master effects turns the set into a balance between composition and improvisation, where each moment is shaped in real time.
