During the course of the Syrian civil war many foreign fighters have been documented to have fought for Syria's rebel forces, either for the Nusra Front, the Free Syrian Army or other factions. Many foreign fighters have also died in the conflict. Fighters include those from the Gulf Arab states, Tunisia (following its own Tunisian revolution), Libya (following the similar Libyan civil war), Bosnia, China, other Arab states, Russia's Chechnya and North Caucasus region and Western countries. The conflict has taken on a largely sectarian bent with predominantly foreign Sunnis fighting for the opposition, while foreign Shias fight for the government. It is hard to give a estimation on how much foreign fighters are active in Syria this is mainly because the fighters are smuggled in the country through neighboring countries such as Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon. After Hezbollah with the Syrian Army managed to retake the strategical city of Al-Qusayr the flock of foreign fighters from Lebanon became harder. The Syrian government than concentrated on securing all the borders to prevent foreign fighters to enter Syria. The hardest part is Turkey-Syria border and it is estimated that most foreign fighters are entering through Turkey. The Border crossing between the 2 countries is still a large battlefield including the Syrian army, Free Syrian Army, The Kurdish YPG and Al-Nusra front which are mostly located in North Syria. According to reports most foreign fighters that are still active in Syria are from Arab Gulf States, Libyans and Chechnya. The video displayed urban warfare known as house-to-house fighting, according to the accents of the men that can be heard they are foreigners mostly from the Arab Gulf states, the location is in Deir al-Zour.
