Join me on my 50th birthday as we pass beautiful lakeside meadows, old stone bridges and roaring waterfalls on this gorgeous short walk along the Cumbria Way from Skelwith Bridge to Elterwater in the Lake District, England. SEE THIS WALK FROM ABOVE • Elterwater From The Air | The Lush Green L... HELP THE CHANNEL GROW ► https://buymeacoffee.com/walktheworld... Despite the short distance between these two villages, this is a really lovely walk along the River Brathay and the Great Langdale Beck with fantastic views of the Langdale Pikes, and was a lovely way to spend my 50th birthday with my wife, daughter and Boots the dog. Skelwith Bridge is a small village in the southern area of the Lake District in Cumbria, England. Historically, Skelwith Bridge is part of Westmorland, lying on the ancient boundary with Lancashire. The civil parish is called Skelwith and is located around 3 miles from Grasmere and is nearby the waterfalls of Skelwith Force and Colwith Force. The nearest lakes to the village are Elterwater to the north-west and Loughrigg Tarn to the north. Elterwater is a small, quiet lake with many small bays and a mix of wooded and reedy shorelines. The nearby village of Elterwater lies half a mile north-west of the lake from which it derives its name. Both are situated in the valley of Great Langdale. In the past, the principal industries have been farming, quarrying for slate and gunpowder manufacture. The first two activities continue, while evidence of the latter survives in the grounds of the Langdale Estate. Only a quarter of the houses in Elterwater are permanently occupied, the rest being holiday cottages.
