Unified by the Prophet (ﷺ) for the first time in history—and driven by their deep faith in the one true God—the early Muslim armies began one of the most astonishing series of conquests in human history. During this period, the two superpowers of the era, the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire and the Sassanid Persian Empire, were severely weakened. Decades of continuous warfare had drained their manpower, resources, and finances and had alienated them from the local populations.
