Neurocysticercosis is one of the main worldwide causes of epilepsy. Neurocysticercosis is a preventable parasitic infection of the central nervous system, caused by porcine tapeworm (Taenia solium). The human being is infected by eating poorly cooked meat, especially pork, by drinking water contaminated by tapeworm eggs or by poor hygienic practices. Taeniasis is intestinal infection by adult tapeworms. When left untreated, T. solium larvae invade body tissues and produce a more serious condition, known as cysticercosis. When the larvae lodge in the central nervous system they produce neurocysticercosis, which is the most severe form of the disease and a frequent cause of epilepsy in the world. We presented a surgical case of a Mexican man with a history of epilepsy. We perform a suboccipital surgery to remove a large amount of cysticercus cyst at the level of the cisterns at the base of the skull.
