The Pivot Rotation - Bidirectional Rotation of the "in the bag" IOL - A novel technique

There are 3 reasons why it is difficult to rotate an 'in the bag' IOL in the anticlockwise direction within the capsular bag as well as to achieve free rotation in any direction. These are the sweep of the haptics of a three piece IOL , the capsular stretch that occurs when you implant a 12.5mm IOL in a 10.5mm capsular bag and finally the frictional drag force generated by the surface contact area between the posterior capsule and the posterior surface of the IOL.These forces helps us to achieve rotational stability of the IOL. The author has devised a technique which will greatly minimise these forces and allow for a free zonular friendly approach to achieve bi directional movement of the IOL within the capsular bag. This technique is the Pivot Rotation technique
