Hundreds of anti-government protesters have clashed with police for a second night in Lima, Peru, as anger grows over corruption, organised crime and recent pension reforms. The demonstrations, organised by a youth collective called Generation Z, turned violent when protesters attempted to march towards government buildings. Many accused the police of using excessive force, including tear gas, against peaceful demonstrators and bystanders. The protests were sparked by a new law requiring young adults to join private pension funds, despite uncertain employment prospects. Demonstrators also voiced long-standing grievances against President Dina Boluarte, who faces corruption allegations involving luxury watches and cosmetic surgeries. As the government aims to boost productivity amidst an economic slowdown, protesters continue to demand better wages and action against organised crime, with no signs of the unrest abating.
