Create fun objects using wool, water, soap and a few other supplies! Plano Public Library hosts a wet felting class where participants learn about the process of wet felting and explore how wool can be physically manipulated in order to create an art project. Supplies we use: Bowl of warm water Paper towels A chopstick Cookie cutter of any shape and size Wool A squeeze bottle filled with dish soap and water to create a soapy solution. The amount of soap you use in each bottle should be less than the size of a chocolate chip A tray or table covering place your cookie cutter in the bowl and place about half of your wool into the cookie cutter. Use your squeeze bottle and squeeze a little bit of the solution over the wool and start poking it consistently with the chopstick. If you notice that the wool is not as thick as you would like it after adding the first half, quickly add the second half before it gets too dense. If you want to use multiple wool colors on your project, make sure you add all the colors at the same time to make sure the different colors are matted together. Keep poking for about 5 minutes. Lots of suds should start coming off of the wool as you are poking it. If you can, gently flip the cookie cutter over, while keeping the wool inside, and poke at the other side too. After poking for another 5 minutes, pick up the wool, still in the cookie cutter, and give it a quick rinse in the large bowl at your table. After rinsing, go back to poking for a few minutes and repeat this poking, flipping, and rinsing process 2-3 times. The poking, warm water, and soap agitate the wool and make it stick together tightly, and this causes the wool to shrink and take shape. The warm water and soap changes the pH of the wool and allows the scales on the fibers to open up. Once you feel like your wool is dense (hard) and taken shape, remove the cookie cutter and you are done! Use the paper towels that are provided to pat dry your shapes as best as possible. If you can dry the project inside of the cookie cutter, this will help the wool project keep its shape. ✪ WEBSITE - https://planolibrary.org ✪ CLASSES - http://bit.ly/ProgramsClassesPPL ✪ FACEBOOK - / planolibrary ✪ INSTAGRAM - / planolibrary ✪ EMAIL UPDATES - http://bit.ly/CheckItOutSignUp
