What is there to do around Amherst? - UMass Amherst Student Question and Answer Panel

There is so much to do in the Amherst area. From The Big E fair, Amherst center, visiting Northampton, hiking, and much more, the possibilities are endless here at UMass! https://www.umass.edu/admissions VIDEO TRANSCRIPT This is a little seasonal, but some of my favorite memories here at UMASS have been going to the Big E for those of you who aren't local. The Big E is a big giant, kind of a carnival, fairgrounds that kind of comes up during the fall semester. They're there for a couple of weeks in September October and a lot of umasstians will try to take advantage of going down and enjoying the yummy food, going on rides. Some of my best memories have been of the Big E, so. Also I'm sure if anyone has been to Amherst Center. It's like a five minute drive from here. Kind of I don't know where we are at this point. Like this direction. It has a lot of great food. I have actually had a conversation with other tour guides for like two and a half hours today about how much food is here that I have never even seen and I am from Nashua. It's pretty big city. In terms of New Hampshire and we don't have any food that we have in Amher Center like that. So you have a lot of different varieties of food there. In the summer and also kind of seasonal it's a little cold out right now but. Sometimes Amherst the city will put on events in the big courtyard and we're all offered to go. A great thing that you must does there was email you every weekend on Thursday. About the Friday Saturday Sunday events going on around the area not just on campus. So it'll be what's going on Amherst Center today? What's happening in this school? Because we have also a five college Consortium. So we have a lot of schools in the area. A really cool like residential area in Amherst Center and then we also have Northampton. So Northampton is like a twenty five minute drive in different direction. Kind of the same idea but a little bit on a bigger scale. So many shops. So many places to go. There's a usually depending on the season there's going to be like museums or art galleries and things like that. Usually we'll just pick up. Go to Northampton for the day on a Saturday we're having no classes. Get boba tea. Have great food. Hang out like go shopping things like that and then we have the Holyoke mall in a different direction. My point mean there's a lot to do on the weekends. But UMASS will email you about so many things we have going on in the area all weekend which is very helpful. Because there's so much it's a little overwhelming. But then you get the email like okay Saturday these are my options. Sunday these are my options. We've done to so many things in the area. So I'm gonna give you a brief synopsis of my different events for different seasons. So for the fall season I love to go into the different hiking trails around you mass Amherst. Northampton. All those hiking trails they're so beautiful. I take my bike on it with my friends. We had so much fun. A great time. During the winter months. I love to go into Northampton like Ella was talking about specifically I love vintage clothing and I also love going to Urban Outfitters. Which any Urban fans in the crowd maybe. So it Urban outfitters is a re-brandimat bank. It so big. So fun. So I love that and then for the spring semester I really do enjoy going with my friends to just explore the different moments. While I'm in Amherst for the years. So going to see the Quabbin Reservoir. That was an area in which we all go tour guides we take a sunrise hike. So going to explore that. Hanging in the center of town there's a giant area. It's just greenery. I have picnics with my friends. So that stuff and also there's a roller rink in town that I just discovered this year. Love going rollerblading. So that is so much fun. They have six dollar Tuesdays. Love it so that's. My actually because I'm on a club sport. I don't spend too much too many weekends here at UMASS. I actually end up going and traveling for tournaments a lot. So this weekend we're actually gonna to California. Not to brag but we're gonna to San Diego. The school is funding it. So if you're interested in traveling and doing sports I encourage you to do so. Around eighty percent of the travel that happens off of this campus is actually through club sports. So we do a significant amount of traveling to go to our tournaments. Not only to the west coast. But I've been down to Florida and Georgia as well. So really kind of all over the country.
