Purple Forest Guava - Psidium eugeniaefolia - taste test. Grown in Southern California, there is debate amongst fruit nerds if this tree may also be known as Psidium myrtoides and that both species may actually be the same thing. The jury is out and I'm ok with that for now. A very cute and ornamental tree, it produces large clusters of dark purple fruit. The fruit is beautiful and you don't quite know what to expect when you taste it. If "tropical" had a taste in a very generic sense, this would be it. It's completely unique and that makes it special. Can be grown easily in a container as the tree stays small, it's also pretty cool hardy, most likely to about 9b.
