Welcome to the Charleston Town Center in Charleston, WV. Opened in 1983 with anchor stores Sears, JCPenney, Kauffman's and Montgomery Ward. The Montgomery Ward closed in 2001 due to bankruptcy. Dillard's had plans to come to the mall, but the plans fell through. If Dillard's had come to the mall, it would've be inside of the former Montgomery Ward space.. In 2002 the former Montgomery Ward (only the bottom floor) was taken over by Steve & Barry's. In 2005 Books A Million had interest in taking over the former Montgomery Wards space, but like before the plans fell through. In the 2006 the Montgomery Wards space and half of the food court was converted into government offices and a BrickStreet Insurance office. In the same year Kauffman's was converted into Macy's. In 2008 Steve & Barry's closed due to bankruptcy. in 2011 Rue21 and Rack Room Shoes would take the former space. In 2017 Sears closed and in 2019 the Macy's closed too. In 2021 it was announced that the Sears space would be demolished for and hotel, and a Casino would be in the spot where Macy's was. Let's go inside and check this place out.
