Why I like high reps. I've had a few people ask me why I tend to use higher repetitions in many of my workouts. There are a few reasons for this. One is, I've found that using heavy weight once in a week or two is enough to gain muscle and strength in many cases. Of course each person has to find their own truth in this. I've found that mixing high reps with low reps in a 70%-30% split seems to work best, especially if my joints feel like they are taking more of a beating than my muscles are during any given exercise. This ratio changes, but the main factor that makes me decide is "how do my joints feel?" or "how does my groove feel." If I answer less than positively to either of these questions, then I stay with higher reps during those given exercises.
