Fast Trains & Train With DPU Problems. Brand New Caterpillar Dozers are on the train in Walton, Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern mainline. These trains are both in Walton Kentucky on the NS Rathole Line. Check out the railroad crossing with CSX on one side and NS on the other. BTW, the NS Rathole Line got it's name due to the numerous amount of tunnels that it once had. Back in the 50s most of the tunnels were daylighted. The house in this video is the oldest house in Walton, Kentucky and was a stage coach stop before the railroad came. It is the Abner Gaines House and I will be posting a longer in depth video on it soon. It has CSX on the back side of the house and NS on the front. Why does the DPU shoving on the rear of the first mixed freight sound so terrible? I have never heard one sound like that before and I wonder what causes that noise. Btw, DPU stands for Distributed Power Unit and a DPU is just an unmanned locomotive that is controlled by wire or radio from the leading locomotive. It can be anywhere in a train but is usually in the middle. The DPU assists in moving the train and in braking for the train. The second train was filmed in the same town and only about a mile away and on the same day. There is a defect detector in Walton at about the MP 20 area. Listen in on 160.950.
