The story of Rato Machindranath is deeply rooted in Nepalese folklore and is centered around the revered deity of rain and harvest, known as Rato Machindranath. According to legend, a severe drought plagued the Kathmandu Valley, leaving the inhabitants desperate for relief. In response, a devout farmer dreamed of a divine being buried beneath his land. The locals excavated the site and discovered a colossal idol of Rato Machindranath. They built a chariot to carry the idol through the streets of the valley, believing it would bring rain and prosperity. The chariot, adorned with colorful decorations, became the focal point of an annual festival known as the Rato Machindranath Jatra. Every year, devotees pull the chariot through the streets, accompanied by chanting and music, praying for rain and good fortune. This tradition has continued for centuries, symbolizing the resilience, faith, and unity of the Nepalese people in their quest for abundant harvests and well-being. Music : • Feb 1 (+3)
