Granny Scarf Crochet Tutorial

This classic granny stitch crochet scarf made a big splash on high fashion runways this year. Crochet enthusiasts around the world saw it and said “Hey! I can make that!” And now you can too!  This scarf uses the granny stitch, also called the granny stripe, a variation of the granny square. This scarf works up beautifully, with a plush texture and a vintage-style eyelet look. The best part of this crochet kit is that it is perfect for beginners, as the stitches used are quite simple and easy to learn. The pattern uses repetitive, back-and-forth rows, which means that you will quickly master this stitch as you practice it for the length of the scarf.  The granny stitch that you learn in this video is extremely versatile, and is often used for blankets and shawls. A particular favorite of mine is a “stashbuster” scrap scarf-where you use the odds and ends of yarn you’ve collected over several projects and combine them into one scarf. It makes a fun, quirky, and eclectic mix of stripes and you can “read” it like a yarn diary to reminisce on your past projects.
