Forgot to mention in the video that Xu Wei, the author who gave Mulan a first name "Hua", also made Mulan have foot binding in his novel. Foot binding is a "Chinese custom of applying tight wrappings to the feet of young girls to modify their shape and size." It was first known to have started from the Song Dynasty and was later than the Ballad of Mulan. So this was considered as Xu Wei's spoof to the original tale. (I don't think anyone will think this is interesting anymore though) That's a good example "In the process of spreading a figure, being widely accepted also means being understood and interpreted by those with different backgrounds".
