On September 18, the Canadian government expelled a senior Indian diplomat as part of its ongoing investigation into allegations concerning the Indian government's potential involvement in the assassination of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar earlier this year. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the founder of the Khalistani terrorist group Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) was gunned down on June 18 outside a Sikh cultural center in Surrey, British Columbia. He was involved in acts of identifying, connecting, training, and funding Khalistani cells in India, being named in over 10 FIRs against him. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in an emergency statement to the House of Commons said there are “credible allegations of a potential link” between agents of the Indian government and the killing of a prominent Sikh leader and Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The allegations from Canada’s prime minister are likely to further strain relations between the two nations. Trudeau said he raised the issue “in no uncertain terms” with the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi when the two met briefly in New Delhi last week for the G20 summit. On the other hand, according to a statement released by India's Ministry of External Affairs, At the G-20 meeting, PM Modi also expressed ""strong concerns"" over Canada's handling of the Punjabi independence movement among the overseas during a meeting with Trudeau at the G-20. The Canadian foreign minister Mélanie Joly said the Trudeau government had taken immediate action. Without naming the official she said, ""Today we have expelled a senior Indian diplomat from Canada. Ms Jolie also said the expelled Indian is the head of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India's foreign intelligence agency, in Canada. In response to the allegation against India by Canada, New Delhi has rejected Ottawa's allegation of being involved in Nijjar's killing. Furthermore, India dismissed allegations that its government was linked to the killing of a Sikh activist in Canada as “absurd”, and has expelled a senior Canadian diplomat and accused Canada of interfering in India’s internal affairs. Indeed, this is not the first time that Indian agencies have faced scrutiny and suspicion regarding their potential involvement in the killings of Khalistani leaders in Canada and various other parts of the world. The World Sikh Organisation of Canada has alleged the involvement of Indian intelligence agencies in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. It has called on Canadian intelligence and law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into Nijjar's murder, including any potential foreign interference, particularly from India. According to a report by India Today, After the death of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, several terrorists associated with Khalistani groups in countries such as the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Greece have also gone into hiding. The suspicious death of Avtar Singh Khanda, a prominent figure in the Khalistan movement and the handler of separatist Amritpal Singh, added to the concerns. Khanda had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away in a UK hospital. Interestingly, Khanda's death was also linked to poisoning. In May, the chief of the Khalistan Commando Force, Paramjit Singh Panjwar, was shot dead by two individuals on a motorcycle in Lahore. In January, Harmeet Singh, also known as Happy PhD, was killed on the premises of a gurdwara near Lahore. Harmeet Singh was involved in narco-terrorism and the training of Khalistani terrorists. According to reports, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who resides in the US and has been leading a Khalistan Referendum campaign, was reported missing following the assassination of his associate, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in Canada on June 18. There were initial reports suggesting that Pannun had died in a road accident in the United States. However, dismissing the reports Sukhi Chahal, founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of The Khalsa Today, confirmed Pannun's well-being and urged everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation.
