Old Polish Tango: Henryk Gold’s Orchestra – W maleńkiej cukierence (In A Tiny Coffee-Shop) [original German title: In einer kleinen Konditorei] Muz. F. Raymond, Syrena-Electro 1929 (Poland) NOTE: This famous German tango had been million times uploaded in You Tube and also in my channel, in various renditions • Polish/German tango: Tadeusz Faliszewski -... . Here, it is played by Henryk Gold’s dance orchestra – one of the best inter-war dance bands in Poland. Henryk Gold was brother of Arthur Gold, who was one of the best pop-music composers in that time in Poland (murdered in the German annihilation camp of Treblinka, in c. 1942) and cousin of Jerzy Petersburski – bandleader and composer of two world-famous tangos of the 1920/30s: Oh Donna Clara (Polish title: Tango Milonga; 1929) and It’s The Last Sunday (Polish title: To ostatnia niedziela; 1936). In the 1930s, Henryk Gold was the musical director of Warsaw branch of the Columbia Records. Both, Henryk Gold and Jerzy Petersburski survived WW2 as officers in the Polish Army in Exile, which was part of the Allied Western Forces. After the war, Henryk Gold via France traveled to USA, where he continued the bandleader’s career until his death in 1977, in New York. The slideshow consists of the photos of coffee-shop interiors in various cities in prewar Poland.
