I've been wanting to do this one for a long time; but I also, so desperately, wanted to get it right! Here I've juxtaposed the beautiful and lush version of "Neverland" sung by my bestest friend, Julie Budd; arranged and conducted by Herb Bernstein, with the rich moving imagery of the 2004 film, "Finding Neverland." "Neverland," the song, is from the 1954 Broadway Musical, "Peter Pan" which starred, Mary Martin. The music was composed by the Jule Styne, with lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolf Green. Although Styne, Comden and Green did not do the music for the entire show, they contributed "additional material" including this classic. While the song is so much identified with Peter Pan - the show and the character - I found it even more emotionally compelling to tell the real-life circumstances that brought the original, non-musical play to life. "Finding Neverland" explores J.M. Barrie's relationship with the Llewelyn Davies' boys after their father's death, and his increasing love and care for them in the wake of their mother's death, which followed shortly after.
