The monastery of Chiaravalle is the oldest and most famous in the city of Milan. It was founded on 22 January 1135 at the express wish of Abbot Saint Bernard, who had passed through Italy to attend the famous Council of Pisa. The Gothic church was completed in 1221 and a magnificent tower was built in 1340, which has housed the oldest bell in the diocese since 1453. The bell tower to the right of the façade was built in 1568 as a clock tower, since the monks were only allowed to have one bell. In 1907, the famous Pruneri bell foundry cast a new concert of five bells in D major, considered to be among the most beautiful in the region and the entire country, and certainly the most prestigious in the town, still rung by hand by bellringers in the room leading to the 13th-century cloister. d' - e' - f' sharp - g' - a' The bells are rung using the traditional technique known as concert ringing, which consists of bringing the bells up to descend one at a time at regular intervals, controlling the timing thanks to the presence of a musical director of the concert, who calls each bell ringer and the corresponding bell. The ringing was performed during the solemnity of All Saints, at the personal invitation of the abbot monk, a person full of culture and kindness. The first abbot of one of the leading abbeys in Europe was elected in 1138 at the behest of the pope, after which he began the construction of the church, refectory, library and the entire complex, including the famous mill inaugurated in the 13th century. Offerings from the citizens of Milan led to the construction of no less than three cloisters, a majestic church and several places to accommodate the poor and pilgrims, the main reason why this work had begun. From 1490 some of the greatest artists in history worked inside the church, such as Bramante, Bernardino Luini, the carver Carlo Garavaglia and even Raphael, who was later called to Rome by the pope. The interior was frescoed in the 17th century and completed in 1640 with the installation of the fantastic wooden choir. #concert #bells #church #catholic #bell #italy #halloween #history #festival #catholicchurch #city #cinematic #view Music track: Cinematic Documentary Calm by Infraction [No Copyright Music] / Daily
