Spending a Late Night Out in Hawkins with Robin Buckley | Stranger Things Soundscape!

the story ~~~~ It’s the 80s. It’s spring break and there’s a murderer in Hawkins. But you and your crew of misfits have been through this before. This should be cake, right? Well, you’re not one to say as you’ve joined the crew late. The only person you really know is Steve, and he’s stuck babysitting his friends. Robin must notice your fatigue during the meeting; she can tell you need a break. With that, she grabs the keys from Steve and ends the discussion. “Okay, this is stupid. Us ladies will go. Unless…you think you need to protect us.” Steve can’t fight that. He squints at Robin. “We’ll be safe.” I assure him. He waves us off. He’s too tired to care. Robin tosses the keys to me and we slide into the car. The engine sputters on and I drive us to our next stop: the Hawkins library. It’s hot in there. And a bit tense. You don’t really know Robin all that well, and it’s getting dark so you don’t know if she’ll be okay with it, but you ask anyway, “Can we actually make a pit stop at the diner?” Her head spins as I shake her out of a daydream. “Uh, yeah.” “Cool.” I make a left at the next stop instead of a right. Soft music plays. Suddenly, Robin turns to me and asks, “Did I come off mean or condescending or something?” “No?” I reply. “Right. Sorry. You don’t know me very well and I don’t really have a filter or a strong grasp of social cues. So if I say something that upsets you, just know that I know that it’s a flaw. Believe me, my mother reminds me daily.” “Robin. It’s okay.” you want to tell her that you’re similar to her in a lot of ways. You just can’t quite find the words. You pull into the drive-in and grab a seat at a picnic bench under the lights. There are other girls here, so you’re not alone, but it doesn’t make you feel any safer. Then Robin comes back with slushies and sits down. “So…What are we looking for exactly?” I shrug. “The man behind the mask. Haven’t found any proof of man, though.” “Any mention of dark wizards or alternate dimensions?” “No, nothing.” You pull out some headlines you found earlier, prints from the library. “Just this.” Robin flips through them, a smile breaks out on her face when she sees one. Her face contorts and she shifts her voice lowly and dramatically. “Victor Creel claims vengeful demon killed family. The murder that shocked a small community!” I laugh and so does she and it’s beautiful. And at that moment, the tension feels cut. A couple passes by us, they laugh with each other. “Reminds me of how Nancy and Steve used to be. Think they’d ever get back together?” I ask. “If I’m permitted to see a silver lining in any of this end of the world doom and gloom, it would be the rekindling of some old flames that frankly should have never been snuffed out.” “Do you believe that…couples that the universe seemed to not want together, could…in fact, be together?” Her eyes flick to yours, and a small smile forms on her face. “You never know.” She laughs, and then the music fills the air as you and Robin spend the rest of the night slurping slushies and talking.
