The small island of Ile aux Cerfs is a superb place to discover while visiting Mauritius. The island covers roughly 1 km square in surface area. Several ferryboat operators are busy transporting passengers to and from Trou d’Eau Douce beach since the early morning. Travelling by boat to Ile aux Cerfs is a particular experience in itself; the little roofed boats, or the much faster speedboats, take a sinuous path in the lagoon scattered with islets of mangroves plants. Along the way, you may find fishermen standing in a shallow spot in the lagoon patiently waiting for a pulling signal on the line. On reaching the disembarkation jetty of Ile aux Cerfs many souvenirs sellers, water sports operators and restaurants are busy at work. The lagoon water here is of a surreal transparency and shallow to the hips on a wide area, resembling a large natural swimming pool. Ile aux Cerfs also has a golf course at the centre.
