To learn more about Twiddle Muff, reach out to Friendship Heights Neighbors Network at (240) 620-3285 To learn more about SmithLife Homecare, visit www.smithlifehomecare.com How to Make a Knitted Twiddle Muff Twiddle Muffs are made from acrylic yarn which can be plain, thick, thin, chunky, or fuzzy. • Using size 11 needles, cast on 45 stitches using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn or 1 strand of chunky yarn. You can knit using stockinette or garter stitch. You can add texture by varying your stitches in sections to make a bumpy or fuzzy set of rows. You can also use a circular needle to make a 24” long tube. My largest short tips are size 10 and that’s fine. Gauge is not the issue. Getting hands inside the tube is the goal. • Push the cuff inside the muff ’s body and neatly sew together the two short ends. You can knit on straight needles to make a rectangle 12” by 24”. Bind off and leave a tail long enough to sew the long edges together to make a tube. • The final product is two layers of knitted fabric made of doubled yarn. • Decorating Ideas: Ribbons, beads, flowers, buttons, loops, zippers, buckles, pompoms, pocket for a hankie. • Decorate the inside and the outside of Muff with colorful items in different textures.
