The pools are called ‘charcos’ or ‘pozas’ in Spanish. Charco Azul, Charco Encantado, Charco Cuadrado & Poza de María Teodora are located along the Arroyo Quejigo in Jubrique – in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja. We started our hike at 7:30am and we were the only ones in this area, until we got back to the Charco Azul, which is the first pool – so nearly back to the car by then! The hike is a little technical, as there’s some scrambling over rocks. Absolutely worth it though! Poza de María Teodora was the last stop for us before turning back – and if you are wondering why this pool is named after a woman. It’s a 15th century legend - Malaga’s version of Romeo & Juliet! The Stats: approx. 5km, 200m elevation in 4 hours. We stopped off at Estepona seafront on the way back, to sample a beverage and a bite at Chiringuito Palm Beach, and also at Blue Dolphin, almost next door – very relaxing! To find out more about Maria Teodora, go to the link below. https://malagapedia-wikanda-es.transl... The Stats: approx. 5km, 200m elevation in 4 hours.
